Pre-processing for FDM involves slicing the 3D model into layers, orienting it for strength and efficiency, and setting parameters like layer height, infill, and supports. For DLP, it includes orienting the model to reduce supports, slicing with proper exposure settings, and adding hollowing or drainage holes when needed. In both methods, selecting the right material and ensuring printer calibration are key steps before starting the print.
We preprocess our models using 3D Systems software, Bambu Studio, and Cura, each tailored to the specific printer and technology. These tools handle slicing, orientation, support generation, and material settings to optimize print quality, strength, and efficiency. By using multiple platforms, we ensure flexibility and the best results across FDM and resin-based printing.
Choosing between FDM and DLP depends on the part’s purpose—FDM is often better for strong, functional prototypes, while DLP excels at high-detail, smooth-surface parts. Material selection is based on performance needs, such as durability, flexibility, or heat resistance for FDM filaments, and strength, clarity, or biocompatibility for DLP resins. Ultimately, the decision balances detail, strength, cost, and application.
